What is happiness? If we google then we will get the definition of happiness as “happiness, in psychology, a state of emotional well-being that a person experiences either in a narrow sense, when good things happen in a specific moment, or more broadly, as a positive evaluation of one’s life and accomplishments overall — that is, subjective well-being.”
Well, that is the definition of happiness according to psychology. But if we put up this question to a person randomly then the answers are going to be pretty much diverse. I randomly asked my friends today what is happiness for them and here are the few replies I received.
Different responses I received for “What is happiness?”
So from the above replies, we can figure out that the happiness definition differs from a person to person. Happiness and satisfaction are subjective concepts — while for some of us monetary benefits can be equated with job satisfaction, some might strive for recognition of their hard work and lose motivation on failing to achieve so.
The place where every one of us finds it hard to be happy is Workplace mostly. this is an issue that should be addressed and a healthy environment is essential in the workplace. Let’s take a deeper look at how to create a happier workspace!

4 key pillars of happiness at work
There are four pillars of happiness at work:
Purpose. Our purpose is a reflection of our core values, and we feel more purposeful at work when our everyday behaviors and decisions are aligned with those values.
Engagement. Prioritize some fun. Take ownership of decisions that affects you. Adopt a flow at work.
Resilience. The ability to handle, adapt to and productively learn from setbacks, failures, and disappointments.
Kindness. Being kind at work involves treating others with dignity and respect, extending empathy and compassion, practicing gratitude, and constructively managing conflicts.

Steps To Happiness At Work
Below are a few steps to attain happiness at work:
Practice “extreme resilience”
The ability to recover fast from adversity.
Let go of grudges.
Never hold grudges against anyone for any reason. Holding on to the grudges will invade your mental peace and happiness. Rather than holding on to grudges try better options like forgiveness, communication, and let go of them.
Don’t waste time being jealous.
Jealousy will ultimately lead to mental stress and other evil behaviors. You might have heard the proverb that “Comparison is a thief of joy”. Never compare yourself with anyone and never feel jealous of someone’s blessings and achievements. We all are blessed with something different. So next time rather than being jealous count your blessings and practice thankfulness.
Invest in the process, not the outcome.
When we have confidence in ourselves in getting the desired result then don’t waste our time thinking about how the outcome is going to be and what will be the consequences if the outcome is not as expected. Rather try investing in the process and handle things perfectly and hope for the best outcome.
Try the 555 rule.
I personally love this rule and I do apply it whenever I feel low. So the 555 rules say that “if the thing that’s happening right now won’t matter to you in the next 5 weeks, 5 months or 5 years then don’t waste more than 5 minutes thinking about it.
